We are delighted to be part of this innovative project which aims to showcase sustainable building projects with reduced carbon footprints.
SBUK has provided input into various areas of the project and we have helped to heighten public awareness of urban and public straw building through work on the Big Straw Bale Gathering in 2018 and the European Straw Bale Gathering in 2019.
Some of our members have also helped deliver the UK’s flagship building for the UP STRAW project in Hastings, East Sussex. The project will see a public building constructed with straw in each of the five project countries; UK, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Up Straw is funded by the Interreg North West Europe Programme which is a transnational European Territorial Cooperation Programme funded by the European Commission.
The programme mixes public bodies and voluntary sector organisations and provides support to projects with a funding rate of 60%.
Alongside the construction projects, Up Straw partners are also working to increase straw bale skills and awareness within the construction industry.
